In light of the recent Tiger-gate extravagonzo...People have been shocked that I have not blogged about it yet...A few of my girls were like: 'Renee, we know YOU have something to say'...and I do...though it took me a while...here it is...
Ladies, we have to do better! A Twitter friend said recently that Women are crying out for help on the internet and I think they are right. I never really thought about it, until recently. We parade ourselves...backsides hanging out in g-strings, breasts popping out of our tops and not always because we are feeling sexy and empowered, but it is often with the hopes of gaining attention from our male counterparts. What is happening to us? Is this all we have to offer? Why are we so desperate for this type of attention? To make us feel validated? Do we have abandonment issues and grasping for a connection? Is it that our day is not complete, until we've given some random dude a reason to drag his tongue across the ground? What is this preoccupation with sex and it's addictive hold on us?
In the past few years, I have learned that this addiction is JUST like an addiction to alcohol or any other drug. It evokes the same chemical changes in the brain. That was shocking to me, since I thought it was "all mental" and you could "control it at any time." Then, I had to think...Would you give a bottle of alcohol to a friend that was suffering from alcoholism? Would you supply crack to a loved one that was a crack addict? Of course not! So, the sexually suggestive innuendo...even the ones fed to us through the media...are all a game of mind control. They feed into our addiction...It is no longer us in control! It is a high when we get our "fix" and a literal withdrawal when we don't.
This game masks itself as attraction and love...when really, we are just using each other for temporary highs...a fantasy. Ladies, we even get to the point that we don't even care if it is infatuation...we just want to be needed at any cost. I have been there at one time, so I understand. There are no more excuses! RISE UP!
Sisters, don't you know you are worth more than this? This sexually aggressive prowess you think is just "cool"...defaces you, dehumanizes you...you have reduced yourself to nothing more than an object for any man's pleasure. What we Women have is sacred...from the Most High! We were the ones blessed with a womb to carry and grow human life...what we have should not be shared with just anyone! Your pictures, videos and suggestive messages become faceless...a thing to be toyed with...an object. RISE UP!
Ladies, you never know who is lurking out on the web. Men, who are our sons...husbands...fathers...fall victim to this game everyday. You only know the online persona...the artist...the musician...the designer...the fashion guru...you only know the part of the person they want you to see. Behind that profile is a whole life that came before you, that you know nothing about, even if you think you do, from idle chatter. Somewhere we have become lost, conceited and gotten carried away...we have begun to live two different lives and it has messed us up badly! Now, don't get me wrong Ladies...this is not all on us. It is both men and Women...we are equally guilty. It seems that our unhappiness has turned our attention to crying out for help in all the wrong places. RISE UP!
We are Mothers, Wives and Daughters...regardless if our life is a struggle or not...We at least owe it to ourselves and our beautiful children to get the help and support we need! Our domestic abuses...father abandonment issues...tragic family deaths...we can't let these things hold us captive, in a perpetual, compulsive state of wanting to please. Let a man appreciate you for YOU...Stop fakin' your love for whatever HE is into at the moment...No, you don't have to know the scores to ALL the football games on that day. No, you don't have to know all the latest hip-hop albums out this week, to be in on the "cool talk". No, you are not some ride-or-die chick just 'cause a "well-known rapper" re-tweeted your tweet. Yes, take care of your man...fulfill his needs...but REMEMBER...he got some work to do as well! Just sayin'!
I know we cannot control the world and it's actions, but I feel like we have sat back, far too long, waiting for the REST of the world to change. Be SEXY and TAKE CHARGE Ladies! But, do it for YOU...Not to prove and live up to any ideal of what a Woman should be! RISE UP!!!
